In my opinion, it has improved. I can write and read in English better because I need to use everyday and every course. The situations force you to improve. However, speaking in English is not quite better because it's depend on your surroundings too. I speak in English when I have class presentation. If you have foreign friends or classmate here, you can talk to him to practice English speaking also.

For me. Its really up to you guys. Some ABAC people are just not making it a habit of speaking english all the time.
Some girls in soi Nana, soi Cowboy have better english than ABAC graduates .. why? cuz they speak english
all the time. They're forced to. Or else, they can't make a living.

If you wanna know how to speak better english to business internationally at the same time.
Contact me. I'm willing to teach u for low price. and also make you a pro at it.. to the point of making yourself make money
by learning and doing my tutorials.

I think it depends on your behavior that you dare to speak with foreigners or not.
ABAC has many international teachers and students.
Just use the ABAC environment with the most useful.
For me, now I dont care grammar much, just want to practice myself to speak with Japanese friends who can't speak English well also. We can learn just a little, but it's better than do nothing.

This is my first semester here at ABAC. 100% Thai. Got the IELTS of 6.0. So basically, I don't have to study English until the second term of my second year. I wonder how did ABAC get to be so famous about the English skills of their graduates when I can spot almost all of the teachers grammar mistakes. (I don't speak perfect English. I know myself, so please don't call me an arrogant asshole.) I mean, come on! You are a 'teacher' at an international university! You can do better than that!

I'm sure you all have heard or seen the horse statues in the lake. My god, they cost 1 million baht, each! Maybe the University could spend that amount of money on something 'useful'; like hire some (more) teachers who can actually speak and write! To be honest, I've seen 2 Europeans in our campus so far.

To sum up, no, ABAC does not improve my English skills (yet). I really do hope that it will do when I get to study Eng 4, with a native English speaker, like I used to in high school and MUIC.

I think, my English 's improving coz I always used it in the campus.  My grammar's better ,too. However, it may not be 100% improving because we don't study in the native speaking countries, we still have our own accent ( parents accent ).

If you expect 100% improving, you should study in US, Canada, UK or Australia.

Mine got worse... or at least I lost some of my accent, according to a recent comment I received from an instructor at ABAC. To be fair though, I think you can only rely on an institution so much before you're really on your own in terms of making an improvement. Technically, learning isn't something you do only in class... its something you should strive for all the time. Yes, ABAC has a limitation in its ability to help us learn English... but so does the whole country (Thailand). Our country's educational curriculum is full of flaws and outdated materials. If you're serious about learning English, take it in your own hands to learn, using whatever means necessary. Don't rely solely on ABAC, not because ABAC is flawed, but because it is never wise to put all your eggs in one basket anyway.

so... what can you do? Take every opportunity you get to use English. You can make friends with non-Thai students. Its a great opportunity to make foreign friends (For non-Thai students you do the reverse, you make Thai friends and learn to communicate with them)

Bottom line.... What is this all about? and what if the guy/girl speaks worse English than me... should I make friend?

... YES!!!... The Big picture is this... ENGLISH is a language... a mode of communication. Regardless of what you do, you will always deal with someone who will probably either communicates worse than you... better than you... or roughly the same.  And regardless of how good your language ability is, its not how good your English is that will make people impressed, but how well you can understand or make people understand regardless of other people's ability to use the language.
This is why it is even more important to communicate with foreign students because different people use English differently and that is something you will never learn without actually experiencing it. This is why ABAC is great! ABAC is an advertisement genius that is able to draw in students from very different sources... you have a pool of great opportunity to learn to communicate. USE IT!!! That is the edge that will make you stand out by studying at ABAC.

Quite an impressive display of thoughts there by Vilin. Props to you.

My English got slightly better, mostly in the grammar part.
Try to enroll your courses with foreign teachers, it'll help you learn different kinds of accent.
Though I found myself not wanting to study with teachers from Asia.

I have no problem with my speaking skill except that my grammar sucks ass >< when it's presentation time I just pass it fluently but when it's a writing part...oh shit! I seriously wanna kill myself. Especially, formal writing Sad and from my opinion ABAC does not improve English for you but it's you that must improve it yourself from what you have chosen. You know there are still some ABAC students watch Hollywood movies in THAI!!!??? How funny LOL

With a Quick-Reply you can use bulletin board code and smileys as you would in a normal post, but much more conveniently.
